Mulindwa asks Vipers players to concentrate on their journey in the CAF Champions league
Vipers SC President Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa has warned the players ahead of their CAF Champions league campaign which starts with a preliminary round tie against Namibian side African Stars.
The Venoms will face off with African Stars on 19th September in Cape Town before their home tie due on 27th September at Kitende.
While addressing Vipers players ahead of the 2025/26 season, Mulindwa put much emphasis on the CAF Champions League snubbing the Uganda Premier League that will be played in a new format.
“Some of us when we reach here we think we have landed, someone who was good becomes redundant. Football is about competition, if there wasn’t not competition how did Put and his friend select 23 or 25 players out of the million players in the country.”
“If you don’t want competition go for fishing. We are heading in the CAF Champions league, showcase yourselves matches will be on television across the globe and very many clubs will be watching you. So we are not going there as jokes just to go there and waste time that first preliminary we are out why should I waste money. Do you know how much money I invest in the team to make sure it becomes competitive, so try to help us. The champions League is a very big platform, it can take you miles, so I wish you all the best in our campaign.” Said Mulindwa
The aggregate winner will face either of Zambia’s Power Dynamos or Ivory Coast’s ASEC Mimosas in the second preliminary round.
The Venoms, league and cup winners from last season are under the stewardship of Belgian Ivan Jacky Minneart and will be seeking to emulate the 2022/23 team that reached the group stages of the CAF Champions League.
